Preamble
Through the developer Recreation Ascot was directly awarded the contract to carry out the Refurbishment and fit out works within a recently closed gym and retail facility on behalf of Swim! And Beth Tweddle Gymnastics, this was designed to offer a local swimming facility for children aged 0-11 to learn to swim and offer the chance to learn Gymnastics all under one roof guided by local Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle.
Challenges
Programme – Tight programme with a non negotiable completion dates due to prebooked classes and registration dates
Project ran in conjunction with each other over two floors with common completion times

Our Approach to the Challenges
Programme :
- All long lead items procured in an efficient time to ensure key deliveries could be met.
- Early communications with suppliers and sub-contractors were applied to ensure key dates and milestones could be achieved.
- Proactive identification of risks were identified and mitigated to ensure a coordinated approach to the programme completion.
- A detailed programme was issued and communicated to all involved to ensure a smooth coordination of contractors.
- Regular project meetings carried out along with detailed project reports to ensure all involved were up to date with the project.
- Any issues to the project were dealt with efficiently and a swift resolution was agreed in satisfaction with the stakeholders.
Budget:
- Existing plant and equipment was repaired and brought back into service were possible to save cost on capital outlay of main plant.
- Value Engineering meetings were carried out with the design team and identified to the stakeholders with options and the pros and cons were discussed for each proposals in order for them to make an informed decision
- Existing FF&E items were refurbished and adapted to reduce waste and save expenses on new finishings.
- Alternative manufactures were offered not only to save cost but to save time on delivery and installation times.
Scope of Works Internal Refurbishment and fit out
The new refurbishment consisted of:
Ground Floor (Swim!)
- New Entrance and Reception area
- New staff room and welfare area
- New DDA WC & Shower room
- New WC Facility
- New Unisex Changing facility
- New Shower block
- New warm up area
- New parent viewing area
Scope
- Strip out and demolition of existing walls and removal of all finishes
- Installation of new partitioning to include fire and acoustic rated walls
- Installation of new glazed partitioning
- New Internal double and single door sets FD30s & FD60s
- Installation of new suspended ceilings including MF plasterboard ceilings were required.
- New WC and changing cubicles and IPS panel Installations
- Plaster finishes to all walls ready for decoration.
- Full decoration to all areas
- Installation of new floor finishes both carpet tiles and Vinyl
- Installation of hygienic cladding
- Installation of new kitchen area including zip boiler and new white goods
- Fire stopping to all areas were necessary
- New DDA WC and shower including full doc M pack installed
- New bespoke reception furniture
- Installation of client supplied fixtures and fittings

- Installation of new Containment, above ceiling and surface mounted
