Making an impact by building a sustainable future.

At Ascot, we firmly believe in the power of collective action and the urgent need to address climate change. Sustainability is central to how we operate, and we are committed to taking meaningful, transparent action to reduce our environmental impact while supporting the communities we serve.

In May 2022, we committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), setting a near-term emissions reduction target aligned with climate science. As our business has evolved, so too has our approach to carbon management. To ensure our reporting fully reflects our operational footprint and value chain, we have now updated our carbon reduction plan to incorporate Scope 3 emissions.

As a result of this more comprehensive methodology, our carbon baseline has been reset to the 2024/25 financial year. This revised baseline provides a more accurate foundation from which to measure progress and drive meaningful reductions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3.

While this change marks a new starting point for our formal targets and reporting, it does not diminish the significant work already undertaken by our teams to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and embed sustainability across the business. We are proud of the progress made to date and grateful to the entire Ascot team for their continued commitment.

Looking ahead, we remain focused on continuous improvement and on identifying new opportunities, technologies, and partnerships that will accelerate our journey towards a lower-carbon, more sustainable future. By strengthening our approach today, we are better equipped to deliver long-term environmental value tomorrow.

Together, we can make a meaningful and lasting impact.

Social Value at Ascot Services

At Ascot Services, social value is more than a commitment — it’s embedded in everything we do.

We’re dedicated to making a lasting, positive difference for the communities we support, our team, and the wider industry we’re proud to be part of.

By partnering with local charities and organisations, we build meaningful connections that drive awareness, learning, and real change. These collaborations create opportunities for support and empowerment, reflecting our ongoing commitment to social responsibility.

We believe in investing in people and places, recognising that collective action leads to lasting impact. Every event and initiative reminds us of the powerful ripple effect that comes from working together for a better tomorrow.

Below are some of the Social Value Events we have organised or initiatives we have taken part in over the last couple of years…

Women in Construction – Inspiring the Next Generation! - March 2025

On Tuesday, 25th March, we had the pleasure of hosting a Women in Construction social value event at Greenbank High School in Birkdale, alongside our fantastic collaborative partners, Red-Tree and Whitfield & Brown.

We brought along some incredible women working in the construction industry for a speed networking session with the students. In small groups, they rotated around tables, engaging in meaningful conversations about the wide range of career opportunities in construction. From project management to technical roles, we aimed to challenge stereotypes and showcase that there’s a place for women in every part of the industry.

It was amazing to see the students so engaged, asking insightful questions, and discovering the many paths they could pursue.

A huge thank you to Lucy Hickson at Red-Tree and Jon Murphy at Whitfield & Brown for helping bring this event to life, and to our inspiring table guests, including Deb Peake, Debbie Penn, and Sherril Nicholson from Ascot Services.

Let’s keep the momentum going and continue breaking down barriers in construction!

Social Value - Highlights of 2024

2024 was a landmark year for social value at Ascot Services. Here are just a few of our proudest achievements:

Supporting Older People Living Independently (February)
We kicked off the year with a powerful event focused on empowering older individuals to maintain their independence.

National 3 Peaks Challenge (July)
In July, a team of our incredible colleagues took on the National 3 Peaks Challenge, scaling the three highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales.

Onboarding SMEs (October)
In October, we hosted an event dedicated to onboarding and supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

Mental Health and Wellbeing (November)
In November, we took a major step forward in addressing mental health and wellbeing, including training extra MH First Aiders.

Building social Value into our Projects
We are committed to integrating Social Value into our construction projects. One standout example was our Construction and Reconfiguration of a Northwest Ambulance Station, which completed in January 2025. As part of this project, we were required to generate 12% Social Value Add. Proudly, Ascot Services went beyond the target and achieved an impressive 20% Social Value Add—further demonstrating our dedication to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.

Addressing Mental Health Challenges Together - Nov 2024

In November 2024, our focus shifted to Mental Health and Wellbeing during an event in Newcastle. Here, we came together as a collaborative working group to explore initiatives aimed at promoting mental health awareness in the workplace.

This focus is incredibly important as the work environment plays a significant role in mental wellbeing, and vice versa—mental health can greatly impact job performance. According to the Mental Health Foundation, 1 in 6.8 people experience mental health issues in the workplace (14.7%), and evidence suggests that 12.7% of sickness absence days in the UK stem from mental health conditions.

One significant initiative involves partnering with the Lighthouse Charity, a vital resource for individuals facing mental health challenges in the construction industry. By pledging our support and sharing the charity’s contact information on project boards, we aim to raise awareness and provide access to crucial support services.

We will also prioritise the training of Mental Health First Aiders so that our teams are equipped to provide immediate support and assistance to colleagues in need. These efforts underscore our commitment to promoting a supportive workplace culture where mental health is prioritised and valued.

Empowering SMEs for Social Responsibility - Sept 2024

In September 2024 we held our Social Value event, supporting SMEs in their Social Value journey.

This event was a chance for small businesses to explore the topic of social responsibility. The gathering was held at the St Thomas Centre in Ardwick and provided a welcoming space for SMEs to learn about the importance of integrating social value into their operations.

The centrepiece of the event was a series of round table discussions led by local charities and organisations. These discussions offered practical advice and insights, instructing SMEs on how they can make a positive impact within their communities.

Our guest speakers and round table hosts included members of GM Business Growth Hub, Ardwick Climate Action, The Armed Covenant and our very own QHSE Manager, Mark Norman, who all offered valuable advice to our Supply Chain partners.

The afternoon was then spent putting social value into practice, at the local park. with Ardwick Climate Action and The University of Manchester, by helping with their construction of the “Our Shared Air” installation which was created to visualise air pollution in the Ardwick area.

With its blend of information and engagement, we hope this event left a meaningful impression, inspiring SMEs to embrace social responsibility and engage in community initiatives.
